STICKERS
Marking digital presence in physical space.
This experiment bridges my online world into tangible, urban spaces through sticker design. Paired with the launch of my website, I created a series of stickers featuring the distinctive MAI logo paired with color-coded QR codes. Each sticker serves as a direct visual portal linking physical locations in Tokyo to my digital presence.
The project began as a simple exploration: can a graphic, originally conceived for screen-based media, maintain its potency when translated into real-world contexts? Placing these QR-tagged stickers strategically throughout Tokyo's urban environment tested the interaction between digital presence and physical space. Tokyo’s unique street culture—where traditional graffiti is heavily restricted yet sticker art quietly flourishes—provided the ideal backdrop for this visual experiment.
Unlike typical promotional methods, this wasn’t about visibility through mass marketing. Rather, it was an exercise in subtle assertion—leaving deliberate traces of my digital world in accessible, everyday locations. By scanning the stickers, passersby transition seamlessly from street-level curiosity to the online narrative I’ve crafted.
Ultimately, the project challenges perceptions of identity and presence, questioning how digital aesthetics translate into meaningful physical engagements. It’s about creating an ephemeral but persistent dialogue between the real and the virtual, a quiet but assertive mark in a constantly evolving urban landscape.
